New York Trip 30 Apr, 2010

Here it is the last day of April, 2010 and we are on the road again, this morning going down streets with these lovely blossomed filled trees along the road for us to look at. We were on our way to Olean and Jamestown, New York for our missionary inspections for this transfer. The day was beautiful--temperatures went into the 70's--and we were on our way!! It was a beautiful day for traveling- - --

As you can tell, the white clouds indicate a warm, beautiful day!!

Our first stop was in Jamestown, and in their backyard, this beautiful blossomed tree. I had to show that New York has the same stuff as we do here in Pa.

We were then on the road to Olean, where we inspected the apartment, went to a really good chinese buffet to eat lunch, and then were on our way back to Pa. We had already planned that we were going to stop in Salamanca, N.Y. to see the "Seneca-Iroquois National Museum and so that was our first stop. Here is Dad out front of the museum

these are grinding stones and if you can notice there are several indentations in this big rock where they would use to grind their grains to bake and cook with.

This is another of the murals on the outside of the building We were not able to take any pictures inside the building, but inside there was a partially reconstructed longhouse and a rebuilt log cabin. Along with skins of animals, beaded costumes, baby carriers (the ones they put on their backs) hunting equipment and utensils used in preparing meals, etc. There were various pictures of residents of the Iroquois descent and told of their history in that area. Along with crafts, costumes, dolls, baskets, snow sticks, etc. It was very interesting.

from there we went to the Salamanca Rail Museum. It was only a couple of miles down through town. Just to the left of the depot are these railroad cars

This is the fully restored passenger depot constructed in 1912 by the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway. Just walking through the door you feel like you have walked back into time. To the left were the original benches people would have sat on to wait for the trains to leave the station to parts unknown

These are the seats just inside the door on the left. Can't you imagine sitting on these waiting until the ticket master called out the next departing train??

And of course it would not be complete without a model of what the train station and depot looked like at that time period.

Bowling and a movie plus

This is the more. . . . . I finished this lap afghan yesterday and I think it turned out pretty. So, I have to start taking pictures of them again. Aunt Lois gave me some more yarn, so I will put out a couple more, I think.


More spring pictures, see these little purple wild flowers. They grow in everyones yards and I am sure you recognize the dandelion leaves--they are everywhere too

These are especially beautiful just a side note, we got snowed on most of the day. No accumulation, however, but it was lovely. I do like to watch those big fluffy snow flakes come down.

Then on to the bowling alley down in Corry, Pa where we had 8 youth come and all these sponsers. It was a good crowd.

YSA activity and more

This past Monday evening we sponsored a bbq for the YSa. This is the food table!! Yes we had hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, desserts, and lots of other things There were at least 15 youth there and others who were helping get this together. It was a lot of fun. I was even taught the cupid angel shuffle and had a lot of fun. There were games and music and just lots of bonding.

Sister Brown had us to dinner on Wednesday night. This is her back entrance. A cute little porch where she can sit and just relax. She lives in the back of the house and her granddaughter and her family live in the front. She is the gospel doctrine teacher so we get into some very good conversations with her.

Last night, after a very long day with zone conference in Butler (we left here at 7 am and got back about 4:30) Sister Parco picked me up to go to the Gruell's for a Relief Society activity. We were to bring a dessert and share the recipe. I did not have time to make something, but shared the refidgerator cake recipe with them. Well spring has come to Erie and I had to put a couple of pictures as proof.
This is what we call a tulip tree and they are so beautiful, though very dirty when the blossoms all fall on the ground

These are proof that the blossoms are exploding on the road to Pittsburgh
