Saturday, May 30, on the road again!! We left Erie about 7:15 a.m. heading out to the south, Pittsburgh. It was a clear, beautiful day for traveling

This is the mission home at 1381 CDandlewood Drive, Washington, Pa. The grounds are meticulously kept, with shrubs, flowers, and beautiful foliage

After some discussion in the morning, Pres Summerhays barbequed turkey breasts for our lunch. This is one time Dad can just stand by and watch!!

They had a good time conversing as the meal was prepared!

While the men were out back, we were in the front rooms chatting and taking the first of many pictures of the event. Top left is Sister Summerhays, Sister Jones (who is in Uniontown) Sister

Another addition is our newest addition to the Seniors is Sister Tragaskel (sp) who is on a service mission with her husband. They live in Pa and live at home but serve in the Brookville area and do institute, plus they also work Knox

This is our dear Sister Erickson. She and her husband were the office couple and were the most loving couple ever.. The missionaries are really going to miss her. They leave on Wednesday to start back home

To the left is Sister Zook. She and her husband live in Ohio and are on a service mission. They check out the vehicles, etc. Notice on the island the lovely arranged salads and meats and cheese and crackers!!

Towards the end of the day, we went into the front yard for pictures of the group. Here is my contribution, and I will add the one that the real pros at picture taking sent to us

Okey, part of our things to do in the next week is to inspect the missionaries apartments. How would you rate this mess, along with unmade beds, dirty shower, dirty oven, refridgerator, floors, etc?? Yes, a little disgusting

No pictures, but this was another day!! The first thing this morning we get a phone call saying Elder Segura had been up since 3:30 vomitting and diahria. Did we have something we could give them. We had bought pepto bismal for another sick missionary so we indeed had some for him. Also immodium. Anyhow, his companion asked if he could use the computer as today was pday and he wanted to email home and work on his pictures video. So, he came over and about an hour later the sick elder comes to the door and says "Mom, I think I am dying!!" We took him in, put him on the couch, covered him up and gave him a pillow and a cold compress on his forehead. We also gave him tylenol and told him he was to have it every 4 hours. At about 5 we had to go to take the walking missionaries to a ward members for supper, so we did that. We called the sick elder to see how he is doing and he is asleep, his companion tells us. So we will check him in the morning.
We called to wish Chino Happy Birthday and I talked a few minutes to MMichelle. It is time to go to bed. I hope all the rest of us don't get sick, too, but we shall see
Good night!! It has been another long day!!

Zone conference

I will just write something tonight!! Our weeks are such a whirlwind we are exhausted by Friday--our P-Day is Friday this week. Today, Thursday, we had a tri zone conference in Butler which is just under 2 hours from Erie. We had wonderful talks, wonderful testimonies by the four elders and one couple who are going home. Pres Summerhays gave us another peptalk, and I love the way he always gets the missionaries committed to do better!!! He is wonderful, as is Sis Summerhays!! The missionaries love them and I know that is why they are working so hard to please them. I knew most of the scriptures that we we were challenged on, but I don't raise my hand cause the missionaries need to be the ones for that. I don't have nearly all the scriptures learned, but I am moving forward.
Yesterday we went to Kirtland. So far we have taken 10 people and one said yesterday that she is grateful we are here as her trip to Kirtland has given her a stronger testimony of Joseph Smith. Hey!!! Maybe it is meaningful to be here!! It was a nice day and we had yet another person giving us the tour, so we learned a few more things I added a couple more pictures last night of Kirtland. I hope you are looking at them, Nancie, so you can power point them for us!!

These are the pictures we took the first visit to Kirtland. This is in the waiting room for the video that is shown about Joseph Smith arriving to Kirtland. This picture, of course is the building of the temple. It is beautiful and takes up a lot of space on the wall.

Just as you enter Whitney's store there is a little area where men would sit and visit and play checkers with these checkers made out of corn cobs

In this oven they created pearl ash which sold for $200.00 per barell

Into these vats the ashes were put and then leached by water to produce a lye minture which

could be processed further
