Lighthouse at Dunkirk, New York

This was one of the rescue boats on display on the property I have some other pictures but at this time they can't be downloaded so will add them later This is what they call a whaler or a life boat
You can see the boats were next to each other

This is a view of the lighthouse on the right and the house the lighthouse keeper lived in is on the left. It was built in the late 1700's and they are just beginning a renovation of the house. We wee able to go inside the house and some of the things in it are further down the page

Dad is looking at lake Erie We got a little closer and noticed black lines in the water. We asked the guide there what that was and he told us it was gouge lines left by a retreating glacier. Interesting, huh??

This was an ice cream factory. One of the few businesses still in the city. The guide said that 10 years ago the population was 38,000 and today it is about 12,000.. Most of the industry has moved out.

This is one of the rooms inside the house and it has a lot of the antiques of the time period

Here is a plaque that tells a little bit about the lighthouse

A closer pictue of the light house. You can see what a beautiful day it was to be sightseeing

This was one of the stoves in the kitchen. The rooms were really good sized for a house of that timeperiod

This is an old ice box

Another ice box. To the right is a cabinet and there was a wooden sink in the middle of it but someone stole it. It has been replaced but not with a wooden sink

I liked the link fence made by the big chain links that lower the anchor into the water

This is the back of the big boat that takes care of the buoys
